Thoughts – GPU_ A necessity?

Excerpt of my LinkedIn post

I Found a Faster Way to Extract Tables… But Now I Need a GPU?! 🤯 - Appa is going to think i am asking it to play GTA

Today, one of my colleagues needed to extract statement line items from a physical document into Excel. Instead of painstakingly typing them out, he used an online tool I had recommended. And just like that, the work was done in seconds! I felt like a tech guru for a moment. 😎

🔍 For those curious, the tool is:
👉 ExtractTable → https://lnkd.in/gSUsHeC9

Its private - It deletes data after processing. Only catch --- only 2 images per day

That last part got me thinking… 🤔 What if there was a better, more scalable local solution

I found a model which does that, I tried integrating it into my code, and the results? Absolutely accurate! 🎯 But here’s the kicker… it took 7 minutes to process just 10 files. 😬

Why? Because my poor CPU (i5-1235U) and 8GB DDR4 RAM were struggling to run it.

The Realization: CPUs vs. GPUs 🖥️⚡
A quick dive into tech research revealed something mind-blowing:
🕒 What takes minutes on a CPU can be done in seconds on a GPU!
💡 AI isn’t just evolving—hardware needs to catch up too.

And now, I’m at a crossroads…
 💰 Do I start saving for a GPU-powered desktop?
👀 Or do I prepare to convince my parents that I don’t actually need it for gaming?
I can already hear their reply now:
"Oh, so now you need a GPU for your ‘Excel work’? Just say you want to play games the entire day"
